1914: Glory's End, a Charles S. Roberts Award nominee, covers the first three months of the war on the Western Front, as Imperial Germany gambled its future on a decisive victory over the armies of France, Belgium, and Great Britain. The resulting stalemate doomed all of Europe to over 4 years of blood and destruction.

1914: Glory's End manages to cover all the important characteristics of the campaign, with rules for Prepared and March Combat, trenches, forts, cavalry, command and control breakdowns, supply, strategic rail movement, Allied sea movement, German forced marching, Plan XVII, and more - all while remaining easy to play. The campaign game runs a full 30 turns, but the game includes both a mini-scenario on the Battle of the Marne and a short ten turn campaign scenario covering the decisive opening weeks of the war. In addition, the campaign games can be played in historical or free set-up versions.

When Eagles Fight: This revised and improved edition of the Charles S. Roberts Award winner for best pre-WWII game recreates the titanic struggle of the Eastern Front on the Great War from the initial clashes at Tannenberg to the revolution that brought down Tsar Nicholas II.

When Eagles Fight has a set of low complexity rules which don't sacrifice the historical feel of these massive campaigns. Rules cover German Heavy Artillery, the OberOst and Stavka Headquarters, Russian ammunition shortages, fortifications, the Brusilov Offensive, the slow pace of Russian mobilization, and Austrian Lock-Step Planning in the opening days of the war. A Random Events table covers the effects of the war's other fronts, and a short "What if?" scenario is included assuming an initial German concentration in the east in August 1914.

Never was interested in WWI East Front, WEF changed my mind. Just a great, fun, brutally balanced game, that simulates the subject very well. 1914GE does the same for the west. A great pair of games in one box.

I have been out of war gaming for some time. This is a great game to get back in with. Relatively simple mechanics with fairly classical rules. Nice starter war game that I will came back to.

Two fun 'go-to' games that can played to completion in an evening. I hope this starts a trend for GMT to bring back more of the classic COMMAND magazine games to a new and old, appreciative gaming audience.

After reading about this game here I bought it used and have been playing and enjoying it. I agree with both of the earlier comments - counters with figures instead of the NATO symbols would be great, the counter design from Worthington Games' Guns of August is a good model. I would also like to get a mounted map - even if I had to buy it separately.

I owned the original from the old Command Magazine. I loved it so much that I searched and bought it from a 2nd hand wargame store on the internet after my previous wife threw it out. Please use icon counters with the cool uniforms from the time. NATO counters are boring to look at. Counters with color and uniformed soldiers are more fun. I am often more likely to buy games if the counters look cool.
