I have been playing wargames since the early 60's but I have never had more fun playing a wargame as consistently as CC. But it has not improved my die rolls. Lost Ipsus three times in a row. Each battle was different, the cards make for a completely differnt game each time even for the same scenario. A few of the other scenarios we played the battles had ebbs and flows and most games the outcome is in doubt. No routes or lopsided victories although Alexander rhe Great lost at Guagamela and Hannibal lost at Cannae when we played them. Certain cards can snatch a desperate situation into a victory. My friend and I just spent $400 in games but CC is so much fun we just want to keep playing it. It is certainly no monster game and can be played in a few hours. The only two drawbacks are putting the stickers on the blocks. Thankfully my friend has nimble fingers and did it for me. Secondly you need the mounted mapboard, the cardboard map isn't the best. The charts are visually outstanding and very practical for game playing purposes. We rarely have to look at the rulebook because the charts have such useful information. We have not tired of this game while playing it for a year because it is so much fun. We are going to continue to play Ipsus until I win it.

Simple system that's easy to learn but forces you to think about what you want to do. I love the blocks and to me they give the game a miniatures feel Also love the mounted mapboard in the 3rd edition. I look forward to purchasing the expansions.

Fast, beautiful, relatively complex, deep enough for veteran gamers and simple enough to get non-gamers playing with you. Extremely addictive and enriched by numerous expansions. Can anyone ask for more?

Great game and system. Sadly, we found the dice and board to be close to unusable. The dice were so big they had a hard time rolling, and the board would never lie flat.

For me, it is too simple, simple great battle of history. It took me forever to get the sticker on. I understand and I'm happy about the success of the system. But it is clearly not my cup of tea.

Great intro to wargaming. Great for fast, replayable contests with just enough relation to the history to be intriguing. More history built into the system here than in Memoir '44, Battlelore or Battle Cry.

Game is great fun, same scenario can be played over and over with a different conclusion each time.

Fun game! I'm a miniature wargamer and I find this game very fun and similar to. I was not given the right mix of colored blocks, but otherwise I'm very happy with the game.

Great game for Friday night boardgaming clubs. You could probably get in 2-3 games easily in a 3 hour period. Really like the way that the rules are laid out. The blocks take a bit of time to label but after you are done off you go to fight Hannibal or as the Carthaginians threaten Rome with capture!

Commands & Colors: Ancients allows you to re-fight epic battles of the ancient world. Here the focus is on the two rivals for power in the Western Mediterranean – Carthage and Rome. Will you, as Hannibal, triumph over larger Roman armies; or as Scipio Africanus, will you beat Hannibal with newer tactics of your own?

Units in both armies can only move and fight when ordered. The command playing cards supply those orders, providing an element of luck that creates a fog of war and presents players with both challenges and opportunities. You must maximize your opportunities by playing your command cards judiciously. How well you handle the diverse units, their weapons, and the terrain, will determine victory.

Commands & Colors: Ancients contains the battles of Akragas, Crimissos River, Ticinus River, Lake Trasimenus, Cannae, Dertosa, Castulo, Baecula, Ilipa, and Zama.
