BLUE vs GRAY: THE CIVIL WAR CARD GAME
SAMPLE GAME
Using both USA & CSA decks, set up a playing area (see SETTING UP) and go through this sample game step by step.  The entire game is on this page so you can scroll down and get a feel for how things flow, or jump directly ahead to a specific section to answer a question.
BATTLEFIELD INTELLIGENCE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Both players get a decent mix of units and leaders in the Opening Draw. The South gets a LATE-WAR card right off the bat.
In the Opening Deployment the North wisely chooses not to deploy anything until after drawing cards during USA Turn One. That way the Northern player has a better idea of what cards to play. The South decides to concentrate it's forces in the EAST.
Turn one finds the USA being forced to counter the Southern forces in the East, allowing the CSA to gain the initiative in the West through Cavalry, and a bit of luck: playing Pro-South KENTUCKY before the North can play their Map Card C.
In turn two the Northern player covers the opening in the WEST, but fails in an attempt to gain some territory. In the East the Southern player draws a High-level Commander early on. This allows the creation of much more powerful forces.
Turn three finds the USA making two attacks, each successful in its own way. The CSA opts to forego attacking and declares a REORGANIZATION.
USA TURN TWO
USA TURN THREE
USA TURN FOUR
The fourth and final turn is a hectic one. The Northern player continues to press forward, including a successful INVASION of an Atlantic Port. The Southern player, upon drawing Partisan Rangers, seizes the opportunity and makes a bold move to win the game. If you want to know how it comes out, play it through.
    The Confederacy Wins a Diplomatic VICTORY
    Results of the 4th battle: USA railnet is severed (falls below 9 cities). And the CSA Occupies 2 USA native cities: Harpers Ferry and Harrisburg. The Score is -3 = An Immediate CSA Diplomatic Victory. . Had the North completed the blockade instead of placing a naval squadron in the west, this result could have been avoided.  The score after CSA Turn Four would have been -2, not enough to win the game.
