BLUE vs GRAY: THE CIVIL WAR CARD GAME
ORDER OF PLAY
The Order of Play (#R29). It summerized the steps within each player's turn. 
GOOD BEGINNINGS

Follow the instructions on the HOW TO SET UP A GAME page to get the board ready. The consult Rules Card #R2 to prepare to play. (Shown here:)
  • USA draws 4 cards (to add to AT START cards) and gets 1 supply.
  • Use tokens on the Supply Card to keep track.
  • CSA draws 6 cards (to add to AT START cards) and places commanders and troops on the board.
WHO GOES FIRST

The USA goes first. Begin with STEP 1: DRAW CARDS. During your turn, the only thing your rival can do is:
  • Defend against your attacks.
  • Play other cards as applicable.
STEP 1: DRAW CARDS
The CSA draws from 1 to 4 cards during their turn. . For each card not drawn take 1 supply or remove 1 card from Cadre.
The USA draws from 2 to 5 cards (6 in Late-War) during their turn.
STEP 2: DEPLOY/MOVE
(You may do any of the following in any order.)
Place troops, leaders and/or map cards on the board. . Utilize your "free transfer" for one command.
Move one command (and all its cards) to the opposite Theater. Restore depleted units (one supply spent = 3 steps).
Attach or Detach (once per command). The USA gets 1 step free.

STEP 3: COMBAT
(As many attacks as you have supply and commands for.)
To ATTACK you must both:
  • Commit 1 command.
  • And spend 1 supply.
 
. To DEFEND you may....
  • Choose a command from the appropriate theaterto defend with.
  • Or detach a command from the appropriate theater to defend with.
  • Or defend from your hand (using an infantry or cavalry only).
RESERVES:  Both sides may....
  • Add troops from their hands.
  • Withdraw already involved troops (flip card face down).
  • Continue 1 card at a time until both sides pass "in a row."
 
RESULTS:  Remove casualties (from the attacker first) and place a control token on the city if appropriate.
BATTLE:  Roll red & white dice.  See results on COMBAT CARD (#R31-32).
 STEP 4: REORGANIZATION
(Only if you did not attack this turn.)
Spend 1 supply. Freely reassign any or all cards on the board. You may add appropriate cards from your hand. .
 STEP 5: REGROUP
Restore depleted units (one supply spent equals 3 steps restored). .
 YOUR TURN IS OVER
(Begin other player's turn.)
