As I write this, THUNDER ALLEY is landing on
our customers' doorsteps and game tables. At last, so many of you are going to
get to see firsthand what our development teams have been so excited about! We
think you're really going to like this game. I've played it a bunch, and I think
it's one of our best ever. If you guys enjoy it anywhere near as much as we do,
you're in for a treat!
I want to start today with some details about our
Kickstarter campaign for Twilight Struggle, and especially about our upcoming
Twilight Struggle Collector's Edition. This update also
includes info on a really cool new P500 addition - a strategic ACW game by Mark
Simonitch, plus updated charging and shipping info, an updated Production
Outlook, plus some news tidbits and Inside-GMT stuff in this column. I hope you
Struggle Kickstarter and TS Collector's Edition!!
You guys have REALLY stepped up and supported our Kickstarter campaign to
partner with Playdek to create digital versions of Twilight Struggle! The
campaign is into its final week now, and it seems that every few days we're
surpassing another Stretch Goal! When I last checked the total, it was about
$277,000 - about 5 1/2 times our campaign goal and just a tremendous show of
support from you guys - thanks SO much! You guys rock!
two quick things here:
If you'd still like to help out with the Kickstarter campaign, there's still
time. Just go to the Twilight Struggle Kickstarter
Page and pledge your support for whichever tier you'd like. Thanks!
As part of the Kickstarter campaign, we are creating a Collector's Edition
boardgame of Twilight Struggle, with some really cool components. Just click
this "What's in the TS Collector's
Edition?" link and check the June 20 update to get the details I gave the
Kickstarter guys in last week's update on what is included.
a bunch of you guys have asked whether we are going to make this Collector's
Edition available outside of the Kickstarter campaign. The answer is YES, we'll
print about 10-15% more than we need for the KS folks and will use those first
of all to make sure we can replace any bad components, etc. With whatever is
left, we'll make an announcement at that time and make those available to our
customers on a first-come, first-served basis.
know some of you just "don't do Kickstarter." And of course we respect that - we
know it's just not some folks' cup of tea. But if you are interested in getting
the Collector's Edition of Twilight Struggle, I want to let you know that the
Kickstarter backers are going to get by far the best deals. The three things you
should be aware of, if you're thinking about maybe trying to pick up one of our
remaining copies later:
Only the Kickstarter version of the CE will have a certificate of authenticity
and be signed by the designers. This is so the backers get something unique and
Kickstarter backers will get their CE much sooner than anyone else. It'll be at
least a few months after we sent out the backers' CEs before we make the
Kickstarter backers will get the best price on their CE. We are heavily
discounting the CE for the KS campaign in order to help funnel as much of the
funding as possible to Playdek to use in making the digital game really cool.
When we sell the remainder of the CEs that were not KS rewards, the price will
be $199. We will not sell these in stores nor do we intend to
discount them, so if you want the best price, the Kickstarter deal is it.
think this answers the questions I've been getting from you guys as to our
intent with the Twilight Struggle Collector's Edition. If you have further
questions, just let us know.
Plug for Rising Glory
Fading Glory, the first in
our line of low-complexity, high-entertainment value Deluxe Napoleonic games
that we're creating in concert with our friends at VPG, has been really well
received by our customers. It's sold very well for us, the reviews have been
terrific, and the word of mouth we get is that it's just a heckuva fun game and
a great value - four games in a pack - with terrific production values (mounted
boards, thick counters, etc).
I'm a little confused by the P500 performance of the 2nd game in the series, Rising Glory. It's at 422
on the P500 list, but it's not rising real quickly and I can't figure out why. I
understand that the topic isn't Waterloo, but still, there are some excellent
battles in here, and with the new VPG 4.0 rules to add in, this one is going to
be at least as good a value as Fading Glory.
suggested that because one of the battles in the pack (Jena) was done before in
C3i, maybe you guys see less value in this package. The VPG folks assure me that
this package includes a completely new version of Jena, as well as a lot of
other "new" information. Here's a post by Kim Meints on CSW a few days ago, with
more details on the entire project:
I hope you guys find that information helpful, and I also want to encourage you
to go over to the Rising Glory P500 Page
add it to your P500 orders. The designs are near completion and our art teams
are ready to go. This one will not take long to produce once we have the orders.
So please, order away! Thanks for your support!
Using Instagram For Info On Not-Yet-Released Games
guys probably know that our CSW GMT topic, our Facebook page, our YouTube channel, and our Twitter feed stay pretty
busy just trying to disseminate news on current games, schedules, promotions,
reviews, training videos, and enhancing customer communications. We don't really
have a lot of bandwidth in any of those places to focus too much on the games
that our design and development teams are still working on (some on the P500
list, many not yet).
get a lot of requests for "what are you guys working on?" kind of information,
so we decided to start using our Instagram account to focus on those
not-yet-published games. So, on a daily basis, we post several sneak peeks at
various games on the P500 list, and even a few in earlier design stages that
haven't made it to P500 yet.
for those of you who just want to know "the latest" of what's going on behind
the scenes, and get more frequent updates on how games in the Design and
Development pipeline are progressing, come follow us on Instagram - @GMTGames -
and we'll give you a peek "under the hood" at games in development!
for you design and development team members who'd like to share playtest info,
new art, replays, "how this game works" info, etc - just drop me a note or a
link to [email protected] and I'll make sure your sneak peeks make it to our
Instagram page. Thanks!
Reminder: Our Counter Trays are Back in

Fall GMT Weekend at the Warehouse will be held October
join us this Fall for 3-4 days of gaming fun at the GMT Warehouse. At the last
Weekend at the Warehouse in April we had about 80 participants and had a
sign up for the event (registration is $25 which we don't charge until the start
of the event), contact our office ladies via phone, online chat, or e-mail to
reserve your spot.
www.gmtgames.com (click the chat icon in upper
right corner of page)
call and reserve hotel rooms as soon as possible. The nice folks at the Sequoia
Inn have rooms blocked for us at corporate rates. You can of course make other
lodging reservations - we just use the Sequoia Inn because they are the closest
to our warehouse and because they have taken care of our guests now for about
ten years. If you choose the Sequoia Inn, make sure you tell them you want the
"Billingsley Group" rate. The hotel phone is 559-582-0339.
hope to see many of you in October!
That's it for the news bytes for this time. Here's what you'll find in the rest of today's
